Nitrous Oxide

“Happy Gas” or “Laughing Gas”

Nitrous Oxide is a sweet-smelling, non-irritating, colorless gas which you can breathe. It is a very safe and effective way for most patients to take the worry away. You will still be awake and able communicate while using nitrous oxide. The dose can be titrated to the perfect level of effect for you. One of the best advantages of nitrous oxide is the fact that the effect doesn’t linger after the appointment. As soon as we’re done, we simply turn the gas to 100% oxygen for at least 5 minutes and the effect will subside.

Who shouldn’t use Nitrous Oxide?

You should not utilize Nitrous Oxide if you have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Though there are no other major contraindications to using nitrous oxide, you may not want to use it if you have emphysema, exotic chest problems, M.S., a cold or other difficulties with breathing.
